MANILA, Philippines—Scottie Thompson barely saw action in Ginebra’s last game of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round against Meralco but that didn’t stop him from making a mark on the game.
Playing limited minutes in the Gin Kings’ 91-87 win over the Bolts, Thompson made it a point to make his voice be heard and his kicks be seen.

“I call it the ST3 Legacy because it came from how I started from the province to the pros. It’s really about my legacy so whatever I do on the court or out, I think about my mantra,” said Thompson with Inquirer Sports in Filipino at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Article continues after this advertisement“Being one of the veterans here, that’s what I needed to do to step up. I needed to be vocal for the team and the new guys so our transition as a team gets easier,” Thompson said.
“We needed those other guys to step up for us to be deep in the Playoffs. They were very crucial to us because we needed our confidence and our bench to be deep for the coming Playoffs.”

Stephen Holt, another guard in Ginebra’s rotation, also benefited from Thompson’s calls on the bench as he finished with 13 points and three rebounds to send the Bolts crashing to a 7-4 card.
Whether or not being a leader would be on Thompson’s resumè heading forward, one thing is for sure; he would be taking things day-by-day with Ginebra and Gilas to prolong his legacy.
